The Boat Safety Scheme (BSS)
The BSS was established in 1997 to promote safety on the inland waterways in respect of boats, their installations and components.
Meeting the BSS safety requirements is necessary in order to obtain a navigation licence on waterways controlled by those authorities that have adopted the Scheme.
The full list of BSS checks falls into two types:
* Essential safety or environmental requirements to keep everyone near to your boat safe
* Best safety practice recommendations to help keep you and your crew safe
Extensive consultation with the boating public, boater organisations and professional and trade bodies contributed to the current list of checks.
We are no longer offering boat safety certification but can offer work guaranteed to BSS standards and advise on boat safety matters.
